Anti-Palestinian Racism: Instrumentalizing the Courts
Thursday, April 23rd | 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM Eastern
Join The Legal Centre for Palestine and the Canadian Muslim Lawyers Association on April 23rd at 7:30 PM for a virtual panel discussion on a very timely topic: Injunctions.
Since 2023, we’ve seen a number of injunctions launched in an attempt to silence and repress public displays of support and advocacy for Palestine. These injunctions have targeted protest encampments on university grounds, cities and municipalities raising the Palestinian flag, and most brazenly, the annual Al-Quds Day march in Toronto. In the case of protest encampments, the Court has largely granted the injunctions, allowing the encampments to be cleared. However, attempts to frame expressions of Palestinian pride and solidarity as ‘hateful’ or ‘threatening’, have been dismissed by the Court.
In this webinar, we’ll walk through some of the most important injunction decisions and discuss what they mean for the movement, and what we’ve learned through the Court’s interpretation of these injunctions.
